A blocked account (Sperrkonto) proves you can support yourself for one year in Germany. The required balance is €11,904, released to you at roughly €992 per month after arrival.

Open the account only after you have your admission letter but well before your visa appointment — confirmation letters can take one to two weeks, and appointment slots in South Asia are often booked months ahead.
